The lawsuit shocker

There have been a lot of lawsuits that have been going on for the last couple of years. There always just seems to be something or another that just needs to be sued, or just people out there trying to get money. There have been some big ones, there have been some interesting ones, but it just all came to a point where lawsuits were just not a shocker anymore. I mean, so what if LOTR director, Peter Jackson, is suing New Line Cinemas.

AMD suing Intel, on the other hand, is quite a shocker. Now we all know that even though in the recent years AMD microprocessors have been kicking every Intel microprocessors ass, Intel still holds the majority of the market. But I can’t say I expected to see a lawsuit like this first thing today morning, or anytime soon for that matter.

AMD may have the better processors, but honestly, AMD marketing is just not upto par. Intel and the Blue Man Gruop, on the other hand, does get your attention. I can remember a bunch of those stupid silly BMG comercials. Could you remember any AMD ones? The only one that I remember was the frist AMD64 one that I saw where the guy is playing a first person shooter and he goes “I need a higher refresh rate” and it all ends with “I just got fragged”. Granted that advert was stupidly cheesy but hey, I remember it.

Who knows where this lawsuit would end up going. All I want to say is that I would hate to see the maker of the amazing FX-57 to just disappear just becuz of a stupid lawsuit.

Bangladesh’s victory over Australia

Though it has been a while to finally manage some time for this, I would however like to point it out to everyone. Lately there haven’t been much in Bangladesh that I have been proud about. And I am completely happy to annouce that now I have something. 2005 will be marked as the day Bangladesh did us all proud. Some of you probably wondering what’s going on. What is this crazy fool babbering around?

It’s just cricket. And it’s just one of those places where we just kick some major ass. Though the article is nothing form any professional new sites but it’s from a teen site where there are fans like me who are just blown away as we are.

Here’s to a bright future for the Bangladesh Cricket Team!

Whoa! Gentoo like Mac OS X? Sign me up!!

I was never a big fan of the Micro$oft corporation, and recent events have been pushing me further and further into out of the fourth layer fan base. Since the birth of Mac OS X, I have been quite interested in the system. Using a wonderful GUI along with the best command prompt, was just awesome. If it weren’t for the lack of software, games and upgradability, I probably would have switched to OS X a long time back. Specially after I used it for lon periods at work. The other work.

Recently, as some of you might know Apple has decided to move their system to the world of x86, which was interesting considering it was well after the bloom of x86-64. The ability to dual-boot into OS X and Windows definitely aids in the whole switching process. But that’s just the beginning for me.

Gentoo community announced the other day, that their wonderful Protage system will be available for Mac OS X. For those who haven’t tried, it is a very wonderful way of getting package sources and compiling it on your computer making it always opitmized for your system. However, the price tag on it is obviously time. Bigger packages means, longer installation time which is mostly defined by the compilation time.

However for smaller stuff, it’s just amazing. Just imagine how much time you save when you do emerge nmap instead of actually going out and hunting for the right package. It’s awesome!

TaskSwitchXP Pro 2.0

If you have Windows XP and higher and you are a big time Alt+TAB user, you just might like TaskSwitchXP. Specially when you have about 30 zillion windows open. I tried the the Alt+TAB replacement powertoy from Microsoft, but this is much better than that. Why do I say that? Well first, it’s customizable, and next its actually faster which adds the extra oomph.

When you have many many windows open, like I sometimes do, it’s very handy to be able to see which one of the chat windows you really want to go to. or which one of the browser window is the one you want. The small screen shot of the window gives better visual cue than actually just reading each title bar at time. What more can you want? Yes, I have multiple monitors, it kicks ass.

Now if you don’t use Alt+TAB, then oh well, I’ll find you something better some other time.

Sorry for the inconvenience

Having finished the Hitchhiker “trilogy” I can finally sit down and decide on which one I liked best. After quite a bit of thought, I have to go with the first book in the trilogy, thought I have to also admit that I really enjoyed the third book of the trilogy as well. The second and the fourth falls in the same category, but then you can’t really judge it like that.

The whole story of Hitchhiker is that there is no story, so do you think it’s fine for me to say that the story in the second that fourth was slower? Yes, I agree. I can’t/shouldn’t say that. But I can say that the frist and the fourth was definitely more packed with fun than the other two. Either way though, if people loved the movie, they would definitely love the book; that is if you love to read. Hint hint: The movie missed out some awesome parts of the book. Trust me.

There is a big chance they are going to do a second movie, by the way. where I stand I can’t see how they will do the fourth one of the trilogy without changing a good bit of the starting of the book. Well may be not a good bit but certainly some parts of it.

Since the book doesn’t really have a story per say, my take on favourite books are absolute bullcrap. Hence I end this note stating that my favourite character in the book was Marvin. Who’s yours?
