Bye Bye Wii

I have done something today that have already confused a lot of my friends. Some may even consider it blasphemous. But I have done it, and there is no going back.

I have sold my Wii. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, you read it right. I have sold my Wii. The Wii and I had a decent relationship. It was a fun thing when my sisters were hear. It is fun when my cousins are around. In fact the last few times they were around I didn’t even play with them.

I always wished that the Wii could stream videos from my machine. Or may be just play some DVDs. I wish the Wii could support 720p so that web pages will look better. May be once the Wii demand is met Nintendo will focus on the next Wii. Or may be they will be nice and provide all these features somehow for free. At that point in time, I can always get the Wii again :)

Until then, bye bye Wii. Hope you conquer more of the console market.

Something different

Today was a bit different for me. To start I’m testing a HDTV tuner. I don’t watch that much TV, but sometimes I want to. HDTV has weird channel numbering schemes so I haven’t found all the channels yet. But we’ll get there. I have a couple of weeks to return the thing if I don’t like it.

The other thing is that I got a Rubik’s cube. I saw this really good tutorial online and wanted to really learn it this time. I could always do one side without a problem, but I figured it was time to explore further. And after a couple of painful hours with several mishaps that made me restart. But I did it!! That’s the big news for the day. Sorry to anyone who called me during then because I really couldn’t concentrate on anything else.

On other news, Big Cat is going to get a new name since some people are revolting against it. I’m thinking Vombol Daas. What do you think? The weird thing is that sometimes I get afraid that he’ll scratch me. It is weird because if anyone met me in the last year, they know I am all scratched up. But that’s by Sylvee, and she was there with me since she was a baby. Anyway, we’ll see whatever ends up happening with Vombol.

Microsoft wants to kill itself

This is just my theory. Some people might have better ones, but seriously, it’s messed up. Microsoft have been going out of the way to get things moving for Vista. They didn’t want to slow approach that XP took for people coming from 2000. Something that had nothing to do with the fact that Vista came 6 years after XP. But since Microsoft have to make the money out of it, first they got rid of all OEM XP at launch. Any freaking computer you get had Vista in it.

Granted Vista was pretty, and is trying to be more secure. But just like the jump from 98 to 2000, all of a sudden a lot of things don’t work. A lot of applications need new patches or releases and a lot a lot of hardware needs new drivers. Heck, I’m still fighting to get my X-Fi to work with Vista. (Currently, just trying to install the driver Blue screens permanently). But hey, a lot of the things still do work.

Windows have always been known to be one of the most backward compatible operating systems. Lots of Applications written for 95 might still run today in Vista. Of course, none of the drivers will. Drivers for XP might work for Vista, but not recommended if they do work. Which makes me wonder why Microsoft did not just make it easy on them and just make Vista 64-bit. That would have definitely led to a faster adaptation. I mean the device companies need to write new drivers anyway. At least Apple is getting this right with Leopard, but Apple has their own set of issues.

Next up in DirectX 10. Microsoft decided that they are not going to bother having it ported to XP. Though they bothered with IE7 which will make your XP do all sorts of crazy stuff. Specially if you have the 64-bit edition. And then they released 2 new games only for Vista hoping that people will switch to Vista to play those games. I know they are crazy gamers out there, but most of them like to skin the money on a next gen hardware instead of an operating system. Not to mention that for getting the most out of those games you will need to have the latest mid-range anyway.

I seriously hope more warez groups out there bitch slap Microsof. May be then they will come into their senses.
