iTunes 6.0.5.20 running

Some of you may remember me whining about how iTunes 6.0.5.x installer would block x64 systems from installing it. I have asked the question to myself multiple times and eventually came down to them having to troubleshoot people who didn’t know about the x64 GEAR drivers. So instead of adding the x64 GEAR drivers when they detected Windows x64, they decided to just drop the support altogether. Most probably they couldn’t afford to get a computer to run Windows x64.

Well fortunate for me, I have found a workaround thanx to PlatnetAMD64 forums. Someone if the forums have found out that you can follow the following simple steps and have 6.0.5.x running. Unfortunately, you need access to a machine with 32-bit Windows.

  1. Make sure you have a previous version of iTunes 6.0.x installed on your Windows x64
  2. Install iTunes 6.0.5.x to a machine running 32-bit Windows.
  3. Copy all files in 32-bit Windows machine’s Program Files\iTunes to your Windows x64 machine’s Program Files (x86)\iTunes.
  4. Done.

I did say run iTunes and not install iTunes, you know. The installer still blocks it, even in compatibility mode.

  1. So, it still didn’t work for you even though someone else claims it worked for them?!? Lame…

  2. No, I got iTunes to work. But not the iTunes installer. I still think Apple is a bastard for putting that check.
