Why Apple, why!?
For those who just can’t accept the x64 world yet, it is a good day. iTunes have been updated to version 6.05 fixing some security holes. However, those unfortunate like me running Windows x64, however, is screwed!
Previously version iTunes version 6.04 would actually install in Windows x64 and bitch everytime that it has a CD recording problem. If you didn’t want to live with all the whinning all you had to do is get the right drivers. However, that option is gone all bye bye now. Just start the installer and chose your language and it would tell you ever so sweetly how it just can’t support Windows x64.
What’s even more awesome about this is that, their download page fail to mention that they don’t consider Windows XP Pro x64 as a Windows XP edition. Sweet. So you download this big file becuz iTunes whinned at you that there is a new 6.05 version and then you try to install it and wala! No go.
Thanx for the warning Apple!
[...] My beefs have still not been addressed as far as I can tell. Apparently, the new version fixes some security holes and some peeps say that new version is not compatible Windows x64 edition. Other than that, I am not aware of any new fancy features. [...]
Naughty Apple!
[...] Some of you may remember me whining about how iTunes 6.0.5.x installer would block x64 systems from installing it. I have asked the question to myself multiple times and eventually came down to them having to troubleshoot people who didn’t know about the x64 GEAR drivers. So instead of adding the x64 GEAR drivers when they detected Windows x64, they decided to just drop the support altogether. Most probably they couldn’t afford to get a computer to run Windows x64.
