As some of you may or may not know, by the time I write this, there have been reports of over hundred small homemade bombs that went off in over a dozen cities in Bangladesh. The only things that come to mind other than the obvious at this point, is why in a country this size, people are just soo busy fighting over each others rights and not try to unite and make better use of this fertile land.
I had some concepts on this idea. Previously, I wanted to wait and get something nice and proper written before I publish it to the world, but todays events have led me to draft the idea going thru my head. Think of all the good things that has happened in Bangladesh and think of all the bad things that happen in Bangladesh. Despite the progress we have been making certain parts of our country has been in some sort of a stand-still situation.
We’ve improved our literacy rate, but then no matter how talented you are, you don’t get a job unless you know someone in the industry. We provided the motivation to study to work their way out of their misery, yet without monetary power or socila connections, one can only go so far in the country. Basically, we are still in the rich people gets richer situation.
We’ve brought forth different cooking techniques and cusines from around the globe, and yet we use rotten veggies, dead chicken and pre-used oil at our resturants. Other than the fact that they are making shit loads of money cheating people, have they no worry for common health? I mean, isn’t the owner of the resturant someday going to eat at another resturant where they are following similar practices?
I say ladies and gentlemen, that this is yet another method of natural selection. With the increasing population in this country there has to be some natural way to dispose of some people to make room for the rest. Since hte advance of medical science have prolonged the average life of a Bangladeshi, why not use treachery to control what medicine didn’t allow? Think about it. People at parts of the country might not be dying out of starvation or sickness as much any more, but how many people are getting sick by simple eating out. Or how many people are getting blown up by these stupid bombers? Or many people is giving up hope becuz the wrost guy in his school has a better job he does becuz of money and connections?
Where are we going from here?
It still stuns me when I realize how universal so many problems are. As a race we face the same problems over and over and still no satisfactory solution has been found. I have had similar thoughts about humanity’s tendency to wage war and act so myopically and greedy. Still, I hope they are not a reaction to our advances to improve the quality of life in a real way.
The same forces have manifest themselves all over the world in different forms. Even here in the USA we still have inequality of the rich and society people, but it also correlates highly with ethnic background. And we have fraud running rampant in stead of starvation. Our wealth has increased and our quality of living (as measured quanitatively) has improved, but the problems still exist.
I think progress is slow and steady. I hope acts like this don’t slow progress further or even temporarily make it go backward. Unfortunatley this is the trend of the last four years I have felt here.
I was shocked when I checked your blog this morning, but not only by the content. I hadn’t seen it in the news, but then it popped up on google news an hour later. My first breaking news on a blog experience.
Madness. Absolute Madness. I’m glad you are ok man.
I second that (“glad you are ok”)… I was worried when I heard about all the bombings… People just need to find some way to work on things in a positive way… But, people tend to be so pessimistic (e.g. me) that they sometimes cannot see the forrest for the trees… Hope you stay safe — and that you even get back to your home in the US soon…
Being a true patriotic Bangladeshi, I believe this is good for our country in the long run. Let there be some violence. Let a lot of people die. Reduce the population. People might hopefully calm down a bit. I am a strong Mahatma Gandhi suporter by the way.
